  • The Luray Singing Tower

    A bell tower known as The Luray Singing Tower, officially known as the Belle Brown Northcott Memorial, was erected in 1937 in memory of Colonel T.C. Northcott's wife. At 117 feet in height the Luray Singing Tower contains a carillon of 47 bells. The largest bell weighs 7,640 pounds and is six feet in diameter. The smallest weighs a mere 12 1/2 pounds. Recognized as one of the country's major carillons, regularly scheduled recitals are held, free of charge, throught the spring, summer and fall. The carillon is situated in a park opposite Luray Caverns.

    Chichen Itza was one of the largest Maya cities. Dominating the North Platform and located in the center of the archaeological site is the Temple of Kukulcán (a Maya feathered serpent deity similar to the Aztec Quetzalcoatl). The temple was identified by the first Spaniards to see it, as El Castillo ("the castle"), and it regularly is referred to as such. This step pyramid stands about 98 feet high and consists of a series of nine square terraces, each approximately 8.4 feet high, with a 20 foot high temple upon the summit.

    The Barboursville Vineyards flagship wine, Octagon, is a Bordeaux-style blend, mainly based on Merlot, with parts Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. Octagon was first produced in 1991, then again in 1995, but 1998 marks the vintage that began the run of consistency, with the exception of the 2003 vintage when no Octagon was produced.
